Artist bio
Formed by musician and songwriter Anthony Wright, Prosthetic Toe brings together the intensity of progressive metal with the narrative ambition of a dystopian epic. With roots in the UK’s progressive scene, Wright’s return to writing marks a new chapter after stepping back from fronting the acclaimed band DeeExpus.
The debut album Blessed Imelda is a post-apocalyptic concept record, set in a world where heroin and cocaine have become the most valuable commodities. At its heart lies the story of Lazarus Jones — a morally ambiguous smuggler — who finds unlikely purpose when he meets Imelda, a child in a wheelchair with visions of peace beyond the wasteland. Their journey unfolds across cinematic compositions that shift between crushing riffs, atmospheric textures, and moments of fragile beauty.
Drawing influence from bands such as Marillion, Opeth, and Clannad, Prosthetic Toe’s music is as much about storytelling as it is about sound. Each track is accompanied by artwork and journal entries written in-character, expanding the world of the album and deepening the connection between narrative and music.
With Blessed Imelda, Prosthetic Toe delivers not just an album, but an immersive experience — a bleak yet strangely hopeful tale set to an ambitious progressive soundtrack.
About me
Hi, I’m Anthony Wright — the songwriter, musician, and general noise-maker behind Prosthetic Toe.
I’ve been making music for a while now. Some people might remember me from my time fronting the prog-rock band DeeExpus — we released a couple of albums, played festivals in the US, and toured the UK and Europe. After stepping back due to health issues, I found myself with time to rethink what I wanted to say musically.
That led to Prosthetic Toe and my latest project, Blessed Imelda — a concept album set in a post-apocalyptic world, mixing progressive metal with folk textures and cinematic atmosphere. It’s dark, weird, and a little hopeful — much like the stories that inspire it.
When I’m not writing music, you’ll probably find me partying with my wife Margi, obsessing over Newcastle United, tinkering with lyrics that get far too long, cleaning up after my numerous pets, or trying to work out how to make the internet actually useful for musicians.
This site is where you’ll find everything to do with Prosthetic Toe: music, artwork, stories, and whatever comes next.
